DRAMA CLUB
At a Catholic school, we seek to cultivate a desire for truth, beauty, and goodness. Theater, because it communicates stories through dance and music, is a powerful avenue for students to enter into the human condition, enabling them to understand their own dignity. Furthermore, theater is a wonderful way for middle school students to grow in confidence and experience a new world of dance, music, and story.
Students from grades 5 through 8 with an interest in musical theater are encouraged to join St. Pius V School’s Drama Club. Those who audition to be in the cast of the annual Spring musical hone their acting skills through projecting their voice, singing, staging, and choreography. The popularity of the drama club allows every show to have a large and vibrant ensemble.
Students more interested in backstage work are invited to join the crew, where they learn the basics of technology needed to run a show, including lighting and how to manage props and scenery.
Drama club is truly a community builder. In the past, parental involvement has benefited the club in numerous ways, including the planning of the pasta dinner fundraiser, construction of the set, assembly of costumes, and running the concession stand during intermission.
Recent Spring musicals include Annie Jr., The Wizard of Oz, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Seussical, Jr. Students have enjoyed performing at the beautiful Ryan Concert Hall in the Smith Center for the Arts at the generosity of Providence College.
