With the upcoming retirement of Bishop Thomas Tobin of the Diocese of Providence, Pope Francis appointed Auxiliary Bishop Richard Henning of the Diocese of Rockville Centre in New York to become the next bishop of the Diocese of Providence. On January 26, Bishop Henning was installed as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Providence at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. “Coadjutor Bishop” means that Bishop Henning will succeed Bishop Tobin on Bishop Tobin’s 75th birthday.
Several middle school students of St. Pius V School with Sister Josemaría and Mrs. Thibeault witnessed this historic Installation Mass of Bishop Henning for the Diocese of Providence. These students enjoyed returning to the beautiful Cathedral Church of the Diocese, which they had visited on retreat earlier in the year. They were thankful to be able to participate in this special occasion, to hear the magnificent organ of the Cathedral, and to enjoy the delicious reception, notably the meatballs! Let us pray for our retiring Bishop Tobin and for our new Bishop Henning.
