We Give Thanks for FriarServe
St. Pius V has teamed up with FriarServe members from Providence College to create a fun and educational Art Club for students in after-school care! Last week, the SPV Art Club created turkeys out of construction paper and cardboard rolls in celebration of the holiday coming up!
FriarServe Public Affairs Specialist, and honorary member of St. Pius V’s Art Club, Alycia Pessoa describes the project as an immersion experience for volunteers:
“This is our 3rd trimester with Art Club. Each week, volunteers pick a project to lead that week!”
FriarServe is a service initiative that pairs Providence College volunteers with five Providence Catholic Pre-K – 8 schools. This service component is a companion to PC’s centennial gift of $100,000 to Catholic schools in the Diocese of Providence. The monetary gift, which will be paid over four years, will be used to provide scholarships to diocesan K-12 schools. St. Pius V is a grateful beneficiary of this gift and has used it to establish a variety of initiatives including Classroom Assistance, Extended Day, Field Day, Garden Club, Homework Helper, and more!
In the first two years alone, FriarServe has grown immensely at St. Pius V school. In 2018, volunteer hours totaled approximately 136, and in just one year, jumped to 786 total hours. St. Pius V is very grateful for all the opportunities FriarServe has offered our students and for all of the hours Providence College has invested in our school.
