On March 25, 2021, ten SPV students gathered in a socially distant fashion to compete in the school’s participation in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The students began their journeys by competing in the classroom, at their grade level (grades 4-8). The top male and female spellers in the grades were selected to compete in the school-wide Bee, held in the church hall. The four grade levels spelled words given by a panel of 5 judges, made up of St. Pius V School faculty along with Fr. Justin.
The competition was fierce, with spellers going into well over 10 rounds of words. All levels remained safe for the first four rounds. As the group diminished, the excitement grew. Finally, the Bee was won by Catarina C., who correctly spelled the word “precariously.” Congratulations, Catarina!
